Putting the Sonic Pro to the Test
Cleaning performance, cavitation and independently tested UVC technology
A product can be designed to perform in a certain way. The important question is whether testing shows that it actually does.
That's why Sonic Dental has built its evidence programme around two distinct types of testing.
First, manufacturer engineering testing evaluates how the Sonic Pro performs as a finished device.
Second, independent accredited laboratory testing evaluates the antimicrobial capability of its integrated UVC technology.
They answer different questions - and together give us a much clearer picture of how the Sonic Pro performs.
Engineering the Deeper Clean
Manufacturer engineering testing commissioned by Sonic Dental evaluated four key areas:
Cleaning Performance. Cavitation. UVC Output. Operational Safety.
Cleaning Performance
In comparative testing, all devices achieved 98-99% visible stain removal.
The difference became clearer under microscopic assessment.
The Sonic Pro was the only device in the comparison group with no visible stain residue observed in retainer gaps and difficult-to-reach areas after cleaning.
Cavitation Performance
Cavitation is the mechanism that drives ultrasonic cleaning.
Using aluminium foil testing to visualise how ultrasonic energy was distributed across the tank, the Sonic Pro produced the broadest cavitation coverage, most even energy distribution and most consistent results across repeated cycles in the comparison group.
UVC Output & Safety
Engineering testing also confirmed high measurable UVC output throughout the Sonic Pro cleaning cycle.
The safety system was tested too.
Opening the lid immediately switched the UVC lamp off, while no external UVC was detected at the housing or lid gap during operation.
Independently Tested UVC Technology
We then wanted to answer a different question: can the integrated UVC technology actually reduce microorganisms?
For this, testing was carried out by the Guangdong Detection Center of Microbiology, an accredited third-party laboratory.
Four representative microorganisms were tested under defined laboratory conditions.
The results recorded:
Escherichia coli - >99.99% reduction
Staphylococcus aureus - >99.99% reduction
Candida albicans - 99.96-99.97% reduction
β-haemolytic Streptococcus - >99.99% reduction
These results demonstrate the germicidal capability of the UVC system under the defined laboratory conditions. They should not be interpreted as a claim of whole-appliance disinfection during normal household use.
Two Types of Testing. One Evidence-Led Approach.
The engineering programme shows that the Sonic Pro's cleaning, cavitation, UVC output and safety systems perform as designed.
The independent laboratory testing separately demonstrates the antimicrobial capability of the UVC system under controlled conditions.
For us, that's what evidence-led product development should look like:
Design it. Test it. Publish the results.
